You don’t need any special pens or tools. A regular pencil, eraser, and paper are all you need. If you want, you can also color the drawing with colored pencils or pens.

Start with a triangle—notice that it’s a right-angled triangle, tilted over.Add a circle for the cheek, overlapping the triangle.Add a rectangle shape for the face.Add a slightly curving arch to shape the top of the neck.

Spend time doodling on the paper to get a sense of how lightly or heavily different pencils mark the page depending on your own technique. This will help you in deciding which pencils to use for which tasks when drawing your horse’s head.

Add shadows to your drawing. This step is important and involves a certain sense of artistry in order to give the horse’s head volume that makes it look realistic. It will suffice to add shadows with a # 2 pencil rather than coloring in your drawing. In this easy lesson, we used the simple steps of drawing horse head. I hope this tutorial has helped you.

Sketch a small oval for the nostril. Draw a short curve next to it to add to the shape of the nose.

Good pencils, a good eraser, and sketch paper are of utmost importance. Tools designed specifically for sketching will be easier to work with and provide superior results. If you’re a beginner, take some time to familiarize yourself with these tools and practice some basic skills. Practice and experiment to find pencils that feel most comfortable in your hand and give you the kinds of results you want. The same goes for sketch paper. Experiment and practice with different weights to find what works best for you.

One of the techniques described in these steps is the use of working lines. These are basic lines and shapes used to establish some guidelines in the process of refining the picture and adding detail. They will be erased once your drawing is done, so draw them very lightly—only dark enough to see while you are working.

Draw these shapes, very lightly, arranged just as they are in the example:

In the guide below, each step is highlighted in a light blue color.

In order to draw a Horse or Pony, you need a lot of practice and a good sense of proportion. If you are a beginner, however, perhaps it’s a good idea to start with perfecting drawing the horse head. It is important to pay attention to its exact shape to convey the beauty and grace of this animal. It might also help you to refer to the actual photo of a horse’s head as you draw. There is a separate lesson to drawing the entire horse though.

Start drawing a horse head with three circles. First sketch the initial contours, as they will be the basis for our drawing a horse head. Using # 2 pencil, draw three circles like so: biggest one on top, smallest one on the bottom, and a medium-sized one in the middle. Please try to replicate my drawing in this step.

Add another but smaller circle below and to the left of the first circle.

The horse’s bridle. A bridle is necessary in order to be able to control a horse. Usually only horses in the wild or on the farm do not wear a bridle. First draw a small ring near the edge of the horse’s mouth and a part of the bridle coming out of the mouth. As you progress through your drawing, add some more detail at every step. Draw a mane and perfect the shape of the eyes and nostrils.

Drawing a horse’s head can be done if you follow a few very easy steps. We’ll use some simple shapes to build the drawing so that you can follow this lesson even if you think you have no drawing ability at all. Try to copy each shape as carefully as you can, making sure that the proportions of your circles and triangles are very similar to the ones drawn in the example.

Adding some details. H South Add the horse’s eye (a semicircle with a pointy hat shape).Draw lines across the corners of the rectangle to round off the nose.Draw the bump of the chin.Draw a curving nostril and a straight line for the mouth.

Add a gentle s-curve shape for the throat.Draw a long, flowing mane and draw the ears.

While the working lines do not need to be precise, it might be helpful if you are a beginner to use some basic aids, such as a ruler for straight lines, a protractor for angles, or a compass for circles.

Lastly, erase your working lines and fix any bits you don’t like. Strengthen the drawing with a firm pencil or pen line, or add shading or color, and your horse drawing is done.

Draw the contours of the horse’s head. Work on the tentative contours of the horse’s snout and head without pressing too hard on your pencil in case you might need to correct some lines later. Add a tiny circle to the largest circle that will be the horse’s eyeball.

Add a few curving lines to add texture to the horse’s hair and face. Draw the pupil and eyelid.
