Draw female body

Here is another pose, showing the torso from a front view. Note how the breasts are still located at 45 degree angles from the center line of the body. Oh, also take note of the shading. After looking at various examples, I find that shading in this fashion (rather than just following the lower curves as you would shade a sphere) makes them look more natural.

Draw the arms starting from the shoulders and work your way down to the fingers. Keep a close eye on your proportions when drawing.

I am going to begin this tutorial by addressing one of the most common requests that I receive: how to draw women’s breasts (heh, I never thought I’d actually be making a tutorial about this…. ^_^). One of the most important things you should consider is to make your subject look natural; you can draw an attractive female without making her look like a “silicon implant ad,” as a friend of mine put it. ^_^

After you have the main body parts drawn out draw in the details such as the hair and various facial features.

When drawing the female body remember that a woman has smaller shoulders than men. It is a common beginning mistake to draw a woman with larger and bulkier alongside with drawing them too small. Look at proportions as you draw to make sure you are keeping the anatomy proportioned.

Space things out beforehand and make sure all your proportions are correct before going in with details. You don’t want to end up putting a great amount of effort into dazzling eyes when you realize one’s higher than the other.

The more you practice the better you get at it! Look in the mirror at the pose you are drawing, always check for out of portion limbs alongside with body parts. To check for correct proportions look at the image upside down.

This is a great tip for those who are looking for accuracy. Compare pieces and parts of the body with other parts of the body. A finger or a pencil can help as a marker. Just look at the picture from a bit away with one eye squinted and see if it’s spaced out correctly.

Draw the sketch marks lightly so you can easily erase any mistakes.

Make outlines single and darker. Try not to draw more lines than it needs to have.

Sketch the wireframe of the human figure. Learning about human anatomy and proportion is highly recommended if you want to draw more realistically.

If you need help drawing a male anime character you can see:

For the finishing touches we will add some basic color and shading.

Start by drawing some lines that indicate each item of clothing. Draw these lines in smooth curves that hug the shape of the body. (For example the top of the socks should not simply be a straight line but a curve to show that the fabric of the socks actually wraps around the leg)

Sketch the body shapes to give volume to the human figure. The same principle of foreshortening applies to the arm and leg since we use the cylinder to build the arms and legs.

If we were doing a more realistic looking style the body would be about as wide as two heads side by side (not including the hair). But since we are drawing anime draw the head slightly bigger than that so the body will be smaller in comparison.

How do I draw male eyes so it appears different from female eyes?

For the clothing we will draw a few basic items. We will draw a shirt, shorts and socks.

Now, note the position. Imagine a central guideline that runs down the center of your subject’s body, as shown at the left. The breasts are at 45 degree angles from that center line, and are about halfway down the chest (shown by the red diagonal guidelines). Be very careful not to draw them too close together or too far apart, or too high on the chest; these are commonly made mistakes. As you will see in examples below, this basic rule of the 45 degree placement will apply to pretty much whatever pose you are using.

Below is the full break down of how to draw an anime girl in the front and side views.

Also important to note is that in the breakdown below can be drawn in a slightly different order but yo do want to start with the head and the body.

Here are some more examples of various shoulder positions. Notice that the shoulders are never drawn flat and dull.

For the front view of the girl you should start by drawing a vertical line. This will help you make both sides of the figure more even. If you are drawing two views at once you can add the horizontal lines to make sure that the different body parts match up in both views.

Here is one last pose to go over the size and placement. It’s harder to see here, but the breasts are still at the 45 degree angle from the center line (which isn’t drawn in this picture; sorry about that ^_^;). Notice that the leftmost breast is drawn as a half-sphere, not as a full sphere. If you want to exaggerate the size, that’s your choice, but I personally don’t think its necessary.

For a more detailed tutorial on coloring an anime character you can see:

The legs should be about half the length of the entire body.

You may notice that in the front view the feet go slightly past the bottom vertical alignment line. This is NOT a mistake. This is because if we rotate the person on the spot her feet would reach closer towards the viewer in the front view than in the side view.

Here’s one method: Draw a circle, add two bended adjacent lines to show the depth, and then draw the jaw/

The shape of the body (when drawing the front view) should be similar to an hourglass.

It’s your choice. It depends on what you are trying to accomplish with your drawing.

For longer, straighter hair, I would sketch where you want the hair to go, and darken and detail it as you go. For frizzy, poofy, hair, just lightly do loop shapes or small scribbles continually. For wavy hair, use guidelines and do loops and erase as you go.

Or for looser types, sketch smooth up and down movements and repeat on other side, using the first line to make it even. Continue and detail the work.

It’s whatever is easier for you. Most people find it easy with guidelines (sketch lines), but it is completely up to you.

Two Methods:Front and Side ViewDraw Using ForeshorteningCommunity Q&A

You can draw some small circles to help you get the shape of the shoulders. Later on we will also draw these to indicate joints.

Step 1 – Draw the Overall Shape of the Female Body Anime girl entire body structure

In this tutorial we will draw as if our character is standing in fairly normal lighting conditions either outside or indoors and facing towards the light source that is up above her.

Certain styles may deliberately exaggerate certain proportions (like the big anime eyes for example) there are still rules to follow when drawing.

Any part of the body that has less exposed to light will be darker (for example the head will cast a shadow on the neck). So we will shade accordingly.

Male eyes are often a little smaller and less open/round than female eyes – but it varies from person to person, and you can look at pictures of different men/women to get some ideas. In drawings, people will sometimes draw fewer/lighter/no eyelashes on men, since eyelashes are considered feminine, and women often wear mascara to make them stand out.

Men also tend to have thicker and less shapely eyebrows.

We will not go into the details of drawing those in this tutorial as they are already covered in other tutorial on this website. You can refer to the following for more information:

One of the most important thing to keep in mind when drawing the full figure is the proportions or the relation of one body part to another. Everything has to be the right size or your character will look odd.

You can find a full tutorial on drawing the details of head here:

Start by drawing the head without any of the small details. In the front view you can draw a circle to help you get the shape of the top of the head. In the side view it will be a slight oval.

Clean up your drawing. For the sake of the tutorial I will leave some of the guidelines but you don’t have to.

Since this type of clothing is fairly thin and tight it will follow the overall outline and shape of the body.

Now, lets move on to the neck and shoulders. When you draw the shoulders, notice that they are slope down smoothly, they aren’t flat. Try to take the musculature structure of the neck and shoulders into consideration, especially if you are going for a more realistic look. They should be shaped more like a clothes hanger, and not drawn flat and hard.

One more thing I wanted to cover regarding the torso is how to draw it if an arm is lifted. ^_^ I have personally found this difficult sometimes, so I figured it was a good thing to go over. If the arm is lifted, then the back of the torso will be exposed. Although a female’s torso isn’t as round and full as a males, it should still stick out in the back. Don’t make the upper torso too narrow. Notice also how the top of the right-most breast doesn’t just keep curving inwards in a circle; remember that it is not a full sphere, so it is attached to the muscles of the shoulder.

Sketch the wireframe of the human figure. Note the left right arm and left upper leg appears shorter since it points towards the viewer.

There is a lot keep track of when drawing a full body of an anime character. You have to make sure to have good proportions while still maintaining the style. Fortunately most average anime style bodies are still somewhat close to real bodies in their proportions so you can look at real people if you need some reference material.

Sketch the details of the human figure using the body shapes as a guide.

If you’d like to draw a female body but don’t know where to start, then follow this tutorial step by step.

Foreshortening is the appearance of a 3-dimensional object to look shorter than its actual length depending on the position of the viewer. (Ex. The image shown is how a cylinder looks like viewed on its side, and how it looks shorter when one end faces the viewer until we can only see the circular end as it point directly towards the viewer.

For drawing a female anime character in three quarter view you may want to see:

If you want to draw a realistic photo, then it’s a good idea. If you don’t want to, though, you don’t have to.

Include your email address to get a message when this question is answered.

Just draw a basic line for the outside shape of the body. Then you can draw circles on the joints (like the elbows and knees) before beginning to fill in the details.

Drawing both views at once is a good exercise. If you are good at drawing one particular body part in one view but not so much in another this can help you.

This is just the body shape. To complete the drawing, there would be clothes, hair, a face, etc.

Looking at the Perspective Drawing Tutorial for Beginners and How it Relates to Anime may give you some insight into this.

In this tutorial you will find very detailed step by step illustrations and instructions on how to draw a female character in the anime and manga style.

The main problems people seem to have with drawing breasts are the shape and the placement. A lot of artists (professionals as well as amatuers) make them look like balloons that have been taped onto the subject’s chest; this is hardly a natural look. If you look through figure drawing books, you’ll see that they are more like halves of a sphere or overturned teacups rather than balloons.

The feet (when drawing the side view) should be about as long as the distance from the wrists to the elbow.
