Step 3Use a blending stump over the whole drawing to soften the lines.

I have to confess that I am not good at drawing realistic fur, so I just kind of shaded around the eye until I thought it was fine.

Step 6Go over the rough shading with a harder pencil. A F or HB pencil would work for this.

Step 4Use an eraser to erase the highlights in the eye and erase unneeded lines.

You will also need some kind of blending tool. You can use a Q-tip if you don’t have one. I don’t recommend using your finger though.

Step 1Start out with a basic sketch of a circle. The square makes it easier to sketch the circle. Use an F or HB pencil.

I added a shine in the tear duct, and did a little more shading around that area.

Also, let me point out that you should draw lightly throughout this tutorial, for this will help you to erase easier until you are finished. 😉

If you know how to draw fur, then that is awesome! Go for it! ;’D

So for this step, you will want to start out with an oval at a slight angle. I find drawing an oval first makes it easier to get the shape of the eye that you want. You don’t just have to make an oval, you could make a circle, or a triangle, whatever shape you want the eye to be.

Step 7Define the eye by blending in your shading. Use a 4B pencil for the dark shading. Use a 2H pencil to add in some light texture. Use a kneaded eraser to pick out some light spots in the eye here and there.

Once you have defined the cat eye, now you can start shading the iris. Start by LIGHTLY shading over the inside, leaving an unshaded gap around the pupil. This will give the eye a bit of dimension. Then blend/smudge it with your blending tool.

Also add light shading on the outside of the whole eye. This will be for the fur.

Step 5Use a soft pencil to sketch in the iris and the dark lines. 4B graphite works great for this, however, 3B and 2B can work also.

I have been practicing realistic cat eyes for a while now, and I’m no expert, but I thought I’d show you how I do it.What you’ll need is simply any kind of pencil, or if you prefer pastels that is fine.

Remember, if you will need to erase, to draw lightly. I put crisp, dark lines on mine because I knew I wasn’t going to erase.

The next three steps include drawing the pupil, large or small, the shine, which is the reflection of the source of light, and finally the tear duct.

Step 8Finish up the eye by shading in the eye lids using an H or HB pencil and blending in the background.

Now all that’s left is your name or signature, and the date!

Here you can shade darker around the outsides of the iris, but steer clear of the bottom. You’ll want to leave that part lighter than the rest.

Whatever kind of paper you have will work; for example, card stock, computer, sketchbook.
