Pencil Drawings Of Dragons.

Let your artwork breathe, In attaching the drawing to the backing or whatever secures its predicament within the mats or frame, it must only be secured at the top and allowed to hang if an adhesive or tape is used. It should not be secured firmly at all four corners or around its perimeter, because the humidity changes persistently and the paper has to have liberty to flex, expand, and contract. Otherwise, the paper will ripple or develop chains if it is contained in any track banks in the paper become extremely apparent when the lighting is directional or at an angle to the framed piece of art. The light causes highlight and shadow because of the contours in the paper. Some framers are using a large synthetic photo type corner that allows the paper to slide in and be secure at all four corners and still allow for the flexing of the paper. It seems to be working quite well, as numerous of my drawings and illustrations using other media on paper, have been framed this style for a number of years.

Stay away from black, As a general rule, I always stay away from black, especially solid black-although, it could work if is part of a color scheme with a particular molding and if it is not overpowering the drawing. It`s great to have something that has a range of values-including molding and mats, working as a set. Even with the values and gradations created within the graphite media, the mat or mats and the frame should all be chosen to either compliment, subdue, or emphasize any particular value or aspect of your drawing.

The drawing can be cleaned well, removing smudges, dust, or eraser fragments. To notice if there are any petite fragments on your paper or drawing, you should look at the eventuate compactly from a serious angle, so that you may see them contrasting from the paper`s advance as they rise up. You may use a brush or compressed air to remove the fragments from the framing material.

Ever anatomy with glass, I would e`er frame in with glass, just I would also pass the superfluous money for the UV safekeeping glass. However, I would never use non-glare glass or plexiglas.

Add a protective dust cover, After attaching the art and framing materials to the actual frame, a dust cover should be used on the back to keep supplementary dust, spiders, or bugs from entering the framed picture compartment. This is usually done by using a two-sided tape on the back arrive of the molding all the style around the perimeter. Then a piece of brown paper is laid down on the adhesive happen as it is reached flat as you press it onto the adhesive draw close . You then trim the outer edges of the brown-colored paper to fit and then you are ready to attach your hanging wire, before placing your artwork on display.

The glass can be fantastically clean and must be tested for finger prints, dust, hair, or other foreign material, before securing it lastingly in the frame. You can have to do this more than once.

It`s how your fulfilled artwork is presented that makes all the difference. Although it`s teasing to purely place your drawing in a ready-made frame, there are numerous things that you can take in introspection before framing your artwork to insure it is adequately safeguarded over the years.

Use acid- gratuitous materials, Whatsoever matting, tapeline or adhesive, barriers, or financial support that you utilisation in the framing of your prowess or drawing can be entirely acid free. Acidic materials, after long periods of time may actually damage the artwork in the frame by distorting the definite paper or by turning the paper a yellowish color.

Use matting, I prefer using mats with the framing of my drawings. If an acidic matting is use, it should be backed by an acid-free material that will act as a protective barrier between the matting and the drawing. There is a standard thickness that is necessary and favorite in the industry for this buffer or barrier. The same pondering can be given to the backing of your drawing. If your drawing or art is backed or mounted on an acid-free material, the barrier is unnecessary . Some framers use a foam-core board for backing.

The head is still a basic triangle with some horns. And I have just played with the shape and size of the eyes to give him a menacing look.

[quote_center]Dragons are perceived in different ways by different cultures. They are sometimes said to breathe and spit fire or poison, and ice. They are commonly portrayed as serpentine or reptilian, hatching from eggs and possessing typically feathered or scaly bodies. Winged dragons are usually portrayed only in European dragons while Oriental versions of the dragon resemble large snakes.[/quote_center]

There is no limit at what we can draw using a dragon as a subject and mixing it up with whatever we want.

Now step back and look at your drawing. See if it fits your mind image. See if the proportions of the parts are reasonable.

I have focused on the head a little bit. I have increased the number of details of the head and the neck and you might want to do something similar. Do not forget though to work at the drawing without loosing control of the overall feeling. So add a few head details bat keep working on the neck, wings and body.

There you have it, a mighty dragon in 5 easy steps! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial about Pencil drawings of dragons. If you have and want to leave a comment or feedback you can do it on the Contact Us page.

In this case I used a triangle to shape the head and just a few lines to define the neck and the wings. Finally a couple of circles to define where the shoulders will be.

Start to add thickness to the lines that defined the form of the dragon. Keep things simple and fluid. Add few lines and judge constantly the look of your drawing. Is it coming off like you imagined it?

From this point on adding details should be a breeze and you can be sure the final drawing is going to look cool. This is because you have focused on the general shapes and composition first. To help yourself along the way gather pictures of reptiles for example to see how scales look and intermingle.

[quote_left]Following discovery of how pterosaurs walked on the ground, some dragons have been portrayed without front legs and using the wings as front legs pterosaur-fashion when on the ground[/quote_left]

In this tutorial however we are going to tackle a more classic fantasy-like representation of a dragon sitting on its treasure. We all know dragons love gold and precious things 🙂

Now that you feel confident about your drawing and about the general composition it is time to start adding details and personality to the dragon.

As you can see the first move is always try to figure how our final composition will eventually be as explained in drawing basics. It is essential to visualize the drawing in our minds first and then put it down on the paper using basic shapes first.

From this point you might want to leave the H2 pencil you started with and start using the B2 in order to make darker lines and to better define the outline of the drawing.

More importantly, note how the lines flow basically according to the direction established with the basic drawing. Look at the shape of the neck for example.

Anyway, dragon drawings are fantastic but present many difficulties. At the same time Dragons are fantasy creatures and offer great margin of improvisation.

There aren’t shadows in this drawing on purpose so you can focus on the control of the shape and lines.

Well this is our final step. Keep working at the drawing as a whole and add lines and marks with the B2 to emphasize shapes and volumes.

By the way the first thing to do is to visualize the scene and establish the main shape of the dragon. For this tutorial start drawing with an H2 pencil and change only toward the ending of the drawing.

Look carefully and you’ll see that I have just added a bit of volume and thickness here and there to better visualize the final form of the dragon.

You could draw small dragons, whale dragons or rabbit dragons the limit is your imagination.

Is the head too small for the body? If you think it is this is the perfect time to fix it. Later on with all the details changing something like that might make a mess of your drawing.

Keep adding detail as your imagination suggests you. Make the head a bit more complex and add scales to the neck. I have added a set of horns and pointy appendages but you can improvise and do something different.
